Project overview

Temple Works, also known as Temple Mill, is home to what was once proclaimed to be world’s largest room at about two acres; one of the world’s first hydraulic lifts; and innovative engineering techniques were used in its construction. The building was in a significant state of disrepair after being left unoccupied since 2004. In 2008 the building suffered a partial collapse affecting the front elevation and roof structure and in 2009 was put on the Heritage At Risk register. As such the building is a key priority for Leeds City Council and Historic England.

Sycamore Square Group have been integral in appraising the site/building, health and safety risks and implementing the systems to minimise/manage these risks. Our extensive knowledge of the current building and site issues, resulted in the services provided being extended to provide, Party Wall Advice and also a full time Site and Building Management role. This enabled us to provide the client with a robust and cohesive service offering, which provided a seamless appraisal and information transfer between the Design Team and the Building Manager. This role included setting up all the site processes and procedures including site rules, management procedures and being the day to day contact for the site to assist CEG with managing the site and overall risk
