Sycamore Square Group were appointed as the Universities single source supplier for professional services to design and manage the construction of a new Student Social Space. The existing student social space contained dark tired bar spaces that had limited accessibility and were not being used by the students.

We wanted to create a vibrant, inclusive safe and multifunctional service offering for the students and developed a design scheme in conjunction with our framework supplier interior designers that created a gym, communal hall, bar, game facilities, cafés and ice cream parlour,  new kitchens, garden hang out and a variety of seating to suit different functions and group sizes. We retained many existing ceilings and repainted the soffits where exposed to increase light, we wrapped existing doors in a copper film to make them appear new and vibrant and to extend the budget. We created new window openings to puncture light into the deep floor space and carefully divided the spaces into zones to manage acoustics and maximise the function.

The space was thoroughly enjoyed by staff and students and is always highly utilised. The refurbishment has redefined the heart of the campus, inclusivity, accessibility and function.
