Sycamore Square Group were tasked with maximising the use of a transient underutilised recess area of a walkway. We reviewed several feature wall and acoustic treatment options with the client to provide a visually refreshed space which would be attractive to students and looked at reusing sky lighting to enhance the wellbeing of the space.
There was limited budget available for the scheme and we worked diligently to source cost effective materials that provided the required look and feel and durability. Through careful consideration of light, access routes, acoustics and privacy we transformed a dull unused space into a warm and vibrant social learning and private study space. Through introducing natural materials, acoustic screens, and feature lighting the space is now heavily utilised by the students. Sycamore Square group designed and procured the works and managed the construction contractor throughout the project ensure segregation from business as usual activities during the works. The project complemented four other social learning transformations we delivered across the campus.
